Sensory Bins- big/small + pretend play

So I've started making sensory bins for you. It would have been a great thing to be doing for the last couple years, but hey better late then never right?! So how did I get started?!

1. Pinterest! That's right it's the usual starting off point for anything I do. It's seriously the best place to go for inspiration. Everytime I get on there I leave inspired to do something new.
I just created a board and searched sensory bins in the search. Tons of great inspiration out there.

2. Organize/sort/toss! I went threw what you had already. I was so stinking tired of all those little toys just laying around. The sensory bins serve a dual purpose- storage and creative play. From here on out I'll probably turn every small toy into a  sensory bin. It's better than this-
I mean really get in there create seperate areas with a focus you can turn the bin into.

3. Purchase containers and fillers! The possibilities here are endless. I went the simplest route for the first bin. I went to search around the dollar store! What a great store for cheap stuff. The total out of pocket for this first bin was $3.19.  <-- what a deal! I grabbed a container and two bags of rice (only used one so technically we are looking at $2.00. For the filler I checked around for some how to color rice tips and found the easiest way was to grab a bag, fill it with vinegar and food coloring, then add the rice and shake, and then set the rice to dry. Super easy but-

** WARNING- the rice stinks!!! I've read about adding essential oils. I will for sure add it next time. I can't stand the smell at all.

4. Assemble the bin!! This was the funniest part. I had separated out some random pink and purple toys I had found. I took Pom poms, bracelets, little bits from a pony book, and some other random pink/purples and added them into the rice filler.

5. Play!! Yep it was so much fun. With this bin we talked about ponies, eating ice cream, big and small, and pretend play.

Dear Emma

I’m so happy to be relaxing with you on the couch. You fell asleep watching your ALL time favorite movie Tangled.
You actually love this movie so much you act out bits and pieces of it and run around the house dancing. Tonight you fell asleep watching it.
Enjoyed another amazing birthday. I turned 26 yesterday.. even though I worked and it was a LONG day. Daddy bought me a gift I've wanted to awhile a new-
KINDLE FIRE HD!!

I love it, and I'll do a little product review on it soon.

I thought I would share a little end of the year “bucket” list turning 26 kinda of list. I get so many things going I lose track so I have to stop and setup a list-
Finish the Blog (Design) Love course I’m taking over at A Beautiful Mess. It is a fantastic E-Course that’s teaching me about html/java/and blog design. The new blog will reflect it… once I complete it ;)

Finish at least ONE DIY project for the new house. I have a couple in mind… I just hope to complete at least one of them.

Keep up all of the Project Life pages and December Daily pages before the next year begins. I was caught up but fell behind again.

Well that isn’t too bad… just add that into – running a retail business through the holidays, 2 thanksgivings, 2 christmas, 1 black friday, buying our first home, working 50+ hrs a week, daddy working full time, both of us watching you full time………
yep I can make it happen!! Keeping everything simple and exciting!!

much love Mom.

Dear Emma- sleepless momma

Currently Im lying in bed hoping to find some type of rest. Its already 5:11 am ... it still hasn't come. You are still unable to find a way to unwind and sleep. Its a build up of complete and uttered wore out and the prospect of sleep is becoming further and further from a possibility. These increasingly longer and longer nights are becoming a normality in our house. It began as a late night... stretched to help daddy catch a few more hours of sleep to a straight up day/night shift. Its stretched so far that we are touching day break. Im beyond the point to even be able to sleep and youve been fussing and crying on and off for over an hour since ive decided its not okay and made you go to sleep. I will close now since I pray that you may have just drifted to sleep. These heavy eyes hope so.
Love one hopelessly sleepy momma.

Journal: Refusal to wear a diaper.

So here I'm sitting on the computer looking through all the amazing blogs, blog hops, stats, and all the logistics to make this blog keep going and continue to grow.. blah blah right?
While I do this you sit and watch your Preschool Prep company videos. Literally the best learning tool for learning Alphas, Numbers, colors, and shapes... but at the same time THE MOST ANNOYING videos for mommy.
M... M... M... M......... M........M............ M M M M
yeah that continues until it switches to
N... N.. etc you get the point.
I peek up from my laptop to look at you, like I always do, and you are just sneakily staring at me. You reach one had up and start to pull at your diaper... You KNOW what you are doing but you keep doing it. You then go after the other side.

yep no more diaper.

I really feel like you are ready to take on this potty training stuff, but at the same time I'm unsure if you are completely ready!

The only solution I've found to have you keep the diaper on so I don't get poop on the floor is to put you in overalls!! ha you haven't managed to learn how to remove those yet.

I'm just going to continue to watch for the potty training signs, keep talking about it, and continue to see if you are ready.

Photo Finds- mommy/daughter matchups

I seen this photo of you and thought hmmm I remember a photo of me as a baby making the same face.. well I went searching through old family photos and I found the one I was looking for, but OMG I never really thought of how much you and I look alike. Everyone says you look like daddy, but for sure as a baby you look like mommy!

I love awesome photo finds ;)

Dear Emma 7/26

Dear phone licker-
You've turned a 200+ dollar phone into a chew toy. Is it taste?? I wonder what it would taste like, it seems to have your attention. Usually you use my phone for its more logical uses such as making phone calls. Whoever you call it seems to go like this " ahah la ahh ehh i uv u - then it always freaking sounds like dada. I uv u dada!" I always seem to continue to give into the insane idea that my cell phone became a chew toy.... or else this happens

I have tried to solve this issue with your play flip phone...

but its only somewhat cool. Hopefully ill have my phone slobber free one day
Love wet phone owner

Dear Emma- 7/25

Dear sippy cup thrower-
How I feel right now, is angy. I had a really hard, very sturdy blue munchkin sippy cup hurled at my head. You have the tendency to be very demanding when you want a drink. Usually you force your cup into our hands. We are trying to get you to say more like juice or milk.. which you do sometimes. It sounds more like uice and choc milk. I do not know what was behind the very angry demand for more to drink that proceeded the head bashing. I literally had blood pouring out of my mouth. That is not an understatement either. Oh by now I'm completely over it, its just the one thing I'm working on with you. You have hit those terrible twos and the hitting and meanness has started. Hopefully this wont go on for very long, but I seriously doubt it. I'm figuring it will end 15 years from now :)
love one very understanding mom.

currently: Meet the Robinson's

so a little recap on current loves, likes, life, and all around details of the Robinson's...

oh and yes I went there ;) let's Meet The Robinson's

oh wait that's not us... not terribly far off though.

So lets start off with you of course.
Emma-
loves Preschool Prep Company videos-

these videos are an amazing way to learn your shapes, numbers, colors, and letters. I would really recommend these to any parent with a toddler.
and
Mott's medley fruit snacks-

they are so delicious I even steal them ;)

Mommy-
is just loving this show- true blood is based on a favorite set of books called the Southern Vampire Diaries or Sookie Stackhouse novels. All in all just a crazy show that I've become strangely hooked on. Don't ask me why...

and i just love like always to keep up with my project life and my smash books, though it wouldn't seem like it since I'm days and oh wait weeks behind. I swear by the end of October I'll have documented your entire 2nd year pl style and have completed your entire 1st year Smash Book style. Then I'll stop and think nice and hard about how I want to document your 3rd year.

and Daddy!!

He's been hooked on this new game- Portal 2. its a really unique mind and puzzle game. He's awesome at it and I'm trying, and I've really gotten the hang of it.

and he's always checking out reddit. Its totally the guys version of pintrest.com. They post funny articles, pictures, and all around total dude stuff.

Journal: omgosh its been a few months...

I believe I have some serious issues keeping up with a blog on a daily.. weekly.. shoot even monthly basis. Oh well I'll keep trying to update this ever chance I get.

I keep this going only for Emma. This is her blog, her story, bits and pieces of mom and dad, things that we love, and things that make up who we are.

I don't simple stop documenting even tho the blog itself gets neglected. I keep up through Facebook and Pintrest.

So whats going on in Emma's life??

one word.. Potty Training!

Since today you snagged of your diaper and decided to poop on the floor!!! ahhhh We figure its officially time to kick it in and get you going in the potty rather than mommy's floor ;)

I have an awesome article pinned from Pintrest that I will be using to teach you how.

a story: (not for faint of heart)

after a late night I wrote a story to you. It could be a story that some may not want to read. As always this blog is dedicated to my daughter. I love to share my love for documenting, recording, and scrapbooking with everyone... I just always want everyone to know this is Emma's Story.

So after a couple strange nights I decided to write my story out on Evernote late one night.

A few nights ago you and I sat in your room. We were doing our usual nightly ritual. This consists of you laying on my lap as I rock you to sleep as we listen to new age alternative rock. Whether you like it or not, I actually sing to you as well. Now im not know for my vocals but you never seem to mind as you slip into serenity. This night I speak of is a strange night that has stuck with me for days. We were sitting there in the dark, methodically when suddenly you sat up and pointed to a spot in the room. This spot was too dark to see anything, but I asked anyway "what is it Emma?" You responded simply by pointing in the exact same spot again. It cause my heart to drop. I was unable to move my eyes from that spot. Unable to move, it felt to me as if you believed you were pointing to someone. I ruled out all else I believed you could be pointing at. Needless to say we did not sleep in your room that night. Since then nights have passed, jokes been made, and the majority concenses that I've aquired this true sense of horror from repeatedly watching horror movies. Now to tonight, Again we were going through our normal nightly rocking jam in session when the next thing I know you begin to laugh. Now u may say it was from my singing ill assure u it wasn't,  because I wasn't. You stared off into an area right next to us and continued to laugh. This caused my heart to drop yet again. I repeatedly thought "who is here with us?" Suddenly a wave of relief washed over me. Like some thing clicked in me. You are happy. You aren't scared. That if someone was with us they are making you feel happy. Without further thought I turned to my left and rubbed you hair, and as I starred at you I spoke aloud "she's beautiful isn't she" I do not know reasons behind this beyond the fact that I felt I wanted it known. Next this wave of pure emotions flooded through me, it brought tears to my eyes. I knew who was with me, my grandmothers. They were with like they always are. Guiding your hand every dangerous leaps you make because you refuse to not climb on high surfaces, they are here guiding me through the tough troubles that come from being a first time parent. I know the question that will be asked will be do you believe in ghosts? You actually think your grandfathers are standing there?? To be honest I know they are there. They always have been. I don't believe they are what most would consider ghosts, but I do believe they are there as spirits. As pure goodness and beauty. The actions you took may be mere coincidences as you seen a toy you wanted or you thought mommy's singing from earlier was funny..... but the feeling I felt afterwards is beyond the words I could ever type. I felt pureness, love, and complete admiration towards myself. I know the bond I have with you is strong and its growing by shear strength and that the presence of them is just as powerful. I will sleep soundly know that as you rest in your bed you will always have 2 angels that keep a watchful eye when I can't.
I love you Emma grace

what's the story? 52 creative lifts week 3

this photo was taken on the way to pick up Uncle John from visiting with Uncle Ryan. I really haven't mentioned much about what's going on with your uncle, I really haven't decided how I'll approach the subject in "documenting:" for your memory keeping. I'm never one to edit out negativity, because I believe in really telling you the story of your life...I'll never edit it. It's just a long and amazingly complicated story that has consumed life around this house for a total of 12 days so far. We refuse to live on negativity, we cope and become stronger for it.

[the story of why we took the photo]
We have been stuck inside all week. Some terrible stomach bug has taken over this house. It struck mommy first.. then went to you.. and has ended with Daddy. It made for a long miserable week which has kept all of us indoors. Since I love to take photos... and I've been taking them every week to keep up with my project life album, you can understand why the first hint of sunlight we got made my camera go into overdrive!! You enjoyed it no matter how bundled up you were. As soon as those little feet hit the pavement you were gone. You were running and playing and luckily slowed down enough for me to grab this picture on your way to the car.
[the story of what you are doing in the photo]
Ever since you mastered the art of alternating feet to move, you haven't stopped.
there isn't much time unless you are sleeping that you aren't moving. You then learned how to make those feet work for you in more was than walking.... you now love to RUN!!
[the story of where you are going in the photo]
Even though we aren't feeling the best, finally we had to pull together to take Uncle John somewhere. This required us to pull ourselves together. We had to put those shoes on and get out of the house. Of course since you are such a big girl now you don't need us to carry you to the car anymore... you got this.

this list could go on, and the stories could go on. Every photo has a story or two that's hidden beneath it. I feel truly inspired by what is behind a photo. Sometimes its nice to go beyond saying what only "I" see on the surface. I would love to see what others see from you in this photo.

What this inspiration has done has finally allowed me to tell the story of what happened earlier this month with your Uncle.

52 creative lifts by Ali Edwards;
what is it?
Each week throughout 2012 you'll receive an email in your in-box with a reflection/investigation on some aspect of creativity (this will continue to be a free newsletter). I'm using the broad term "creativity" so I can leave room to share a variety of different concepts. It might be process, it might be ways of seeing, it might be motivation, it might be questions, it might be simple inspiration, it might be a list of inspiring links, it might be memory keeping or mixed media or photography or something completely different.

dear Emma/ project life: minimalistic approach

so I'm going to do my best to get this post typed within a reasonable time ;)
and this is why-

so at work yesterday I smashed my finger between a metal bar and roughly 150 pounds of metal grid. Grid is what the company I work for uses to attach to temporary stores to hold up fixtures to place merchandise. These things are atleast 8 ft tall and 4 ft wide. We loaded 15 of them on a metal cart since we needed to get them into storage containers so we could move them out. When we began moving it worked... and I was think YAY way more efficient... then the next thing I know they shifted and found my finger. It immediately turned blue and doubled in size. I went to the hospital and they said I fractured my distal phalanx.. up higher its too swollen to know what else I may have done. It looks so bad today!! its scary to unwrap and look lol.

so Emma if you ever follow in moms footsteps and decide to be a business woman like I am, I always want you to know there are sometimes consequences when you choose productivity over second thoughts on safety. You should be efficient and productive... just sometimes safety falters and Im just lucky I didn't injure my employees.

OK so now I wanted to share with my friends how I approach project life and how you can do it with ease and efficiency no matter where you are in your life.

So I know sometimes you look for inspiration online.. and it becomes rather overwhelming. I know this happens a lot...

when I look at some pl albums I fall in love with her approach and skill. Yet I can't fall in love with the rooms, amount of product used, and unbelievable amounts of paper cutting, gluing, sewing, stapling, securing, and amounts of products some use. I wish I could, but if I have something out of place, I loose my mind. I simply cannot contain and store those amounts of products... so I take my own approach and found the products I LOVE the most and I will contain them with in my own PROJECT LIFE station.

Maybe this is the main reason why I traditionally find myself being a digital scrapbooker, its all contained within an external hard drive. I don't like opening drawers... I would rather open a window!! ;)
So when I convienced myself that I would do pl this year, and that I would do it with paper scrapbooking I knew I had to stop and think of exactly how I would do it.

First I think that's why I settled so quickly on Becky Higgin's Project Life Kits

everything is simple. straight forward. highy organized and ready to go!! I'm sold

so my first way to organize is to keep the kit directly how it comes from Becky.

can't beat that right?

Next I knew I had to have me essential things, paper scrappers just have to have somethings that normally a digital scrapbooker would use a click of the mouse for. So I thought about it for a bit... and I came up with this as my project life station.

so below you see what I use to "move" my station. Its a christmas gift.. which I still haven't put my own photos in yet lol

its nice and simple just a coffee table tray with handles. Allows me to work at the table in any room, the living room, the bedroom... ect you get the picture. I think I secretly love it more because as a digital scrapbooker I've always been able to scrapbook ANYWHERE I could put my laptop.

so this little holder here

is actually a tv remote control holder Josh's parents got us for Christmas. Since I don't have but one tv remote... didn't see a use for it at first... as i thought... kinda looks like a pen holder.....  then it kept adding on. It is a great way to hold all your essentials. Honestly I don't ever see that thing filling up with more than that. I fit my corner rounder, stamper, 4 pens, journal cards, 3 smash book cards, 2 washi tapes and 2 stamp pads.

I really hope sharing helps others who don't feel they have enough room, they don't have enough supplies, or are worried about creative ways to organize. Just look around your house and don't be afraid to sample and REUSE!!

much love guys and can't wait to see everyone's next week.

the holidays are near...

So its getting close to that time!

Its almost time for Christmas. I can't wait to spend some family time together. We will be having Christmas for my side on Wednesday. Your grandma Toby will be coming up from Rolla to have dinner at our house. It will be fun, we are doing a pot luck type dinner. I'm sure we will play some games, and then grandma said she wrapped all your gifts in single boxes because she wanted you to have a bunch to open.

On Sunday or Monday we will head up to St. Joesph to have Christmas with Daddy's family. I haven't heard what we have planned yet, but I'm sure it will be fun. I actually haven't even heard what you are getting yet!!

The rest of the time I'll be working and Daddy will be working. I'm continuing to work on you December album and you'll continue to recover from your terrible cold and teething you are doing right now.

BTW:
You have a whopping 14 teeth!! Thats insane little lady.

Love you bunches

another day down, sick baby, and pl updates...

Oh for the love of..

snot!!

that's literally all i've seen tonight. You are so sick! I feel bad because you are still so young that I really can't give you anything to help you get over it. Luckily you aren't overly grumpy.

I've also added a few new things to my Project Life list.

I picked up a smash book to help me plan, organize, and play with journaling and emperphia.

then I picked up their date stamp to help me label the journal cards. I LOVE it already
next I ordered my project life kit from Becky Higgins. I went with the Clementine edition. I guess I couldn't pass something up from Lili!!

and I grabbed some design A page protectors.

and I couldn't pass up getting some Washi Tape from Cutetape.

Thats my start for after the December Daily ends. I've been having so much fun with December Daily I can't believe I'm over half way finished!! I'm completely caught up on all journaling... I just have some decorating things and photos to print off. Not bad for this lady ;)

I hope to take some time tomorrow to go and pick up my pl kit, try and find more smash supplies at Michaels (they were sold out earlier) make some prints, decorate the dd pages, and spend the day with you  <3
sounds like a perfect thursday

project life and december daily catching up!!

So I'm so in love with the Project life inspired by Ali Edwards and based of Becky Higgins. I'm waiting on the new project life kits to come out, but I had to start the week after your birthday to keep up with the album a year I'm attempting... so I found some super cute paper and bought Becky's journaling cards... and went from there. After the new kit comes out I'll plan on changing things around a bit, but this is the last 8 weeks.. all jammed into one post
;)
Title Page:

week 1-
so in the beginning I was still working out where I wanted photos and how I wanted to lay them out, I love the fact that I decided not to change anything even tho later on I change the way I lay it out.

week2-
this week was a super special one because I was able to insert something from another family member. I haven't been able to do it again but I hope to try again. I also added your VERY FIRST DRAWING. This is what I love about this project... everything gets preserved and its all easily kept without the over concern of "Decorating"

week 3-
this week was centered around you. Your first coloring page and your 1 year doctor checkup.
unfortunately these things like your weight and height charts got lost... this year they wont because I'll have a place to put them without worrying later. I can say I'm just so in love with this way of memory keeping. I'm not the only one either, all your family members love this unique way at looking back at your every week.

 week 4-
this was Halloween Week. I was able to catch fun Halloween photos and I kept your Halloween cardboard cover. Also I wrote an awesome story about your first time Trick or Treating.

week 5-
This week I centered around letting you know about what I do at work. Since this week was the end of my Halloween store and the start of the Toy store I thought it would be a perfect time to do it. This week all photos are centered around us setting up the new store.wa1

 week 6-
This week is a 4 page layout spread. This week was full since it was my birthday week. Showing you some photos from our dinner out, some family photos, a fun thing I did for daddy, and a movie I went to see for girls night.

 week 7-
This was another busy week full of stories and photos its another 4 page spread. This week was thanksgiving week. So I spent sometime showing you your family on mommy's side and your puppy! Next week will be photos from daddy's side. I'm trying to spend each week with some fun focals just like this week I showed what are favorite things were. Its fun to put some twists and some fantastic stories mixed in with photos.

week 8 is coming soon!!

Next will be some quick glances at my foundation pages for my December Daily album. I'm combining this right in with the project life. It will be the same just themed with the holidays and will be daily rather than weekly.
Its laid out directly after week 8 which will be the entire month of December. I started with a holiday paper cut 11x3 and added a ribbon down the side with a number. Next will be a 9 page pocket protector. One pocket is filled with a little decoration. The other 8 will be for wallet size photos or small journaling cards. I'll add journaling cards on the back of the "bookmark" and add some journaling there too. Next is the Ali Edwards Holiday overlay 8.5X11 page. I added a little holiday sticker and I'm going to use the open space for a 5x7 photo and below I'll write out a story or tell about the day. I continued it throughout. I didn't photograph all simply because I haven't gotten all the decorations in yet.

*** sorry about the terrible photos... they were taken with my camera phone ***
